About the OPAL Institute

The OPAL (Older People And SexuaL Rights) Institute promotes the sexual rights of older people. The Institute's Director, Dr Catherine Barrett co-led the development of a global framework for sexual rights of older people (here) and the Institute draws on the framework to develop resources, conduct research, disseminate information, empower older people, educate service providers, and advocate for the sexual rights of older people.

The OPAL Institute is part of Celebrate Ageing, which was established in 2016 challenge ageism and build respect for older people. The violation of older people's sexual rights is grounded in ageism (and sexism).
